In the frame

Originally shot in black and white, during post processing I hand coloured the dress, background, and skin tones.

I love the way that the doors framed the girl. An open door hidden on the left provided the soft lighting for her face, whilst the background was lit from an open (and missing) window.

This was taken in one of the old dock buildings on the river Humber.
We started the shoot upstairs, but after disappearing up to my goolies through the rotten floor I decided that the ground floor looked better!

Mischief

Yet another from the series of shots that I took of the giggler and her pet rat. She simply has the most fabulous expressive eyes.

Taken at 1/40 and F4.5.

Mist

I grabbed this shot while on holiday in Northumberland.
The river near where we were staying was quite near the coast and it had these adolescent swans constantly patrolling right in front of me.
It was a very humid day, and each time the cold wind blew in from the sea a quite ethereal looking mist would appear almost hiding the swans.

I took this at 1/800th and F22 with two stops of underexposure so that I didn't burn out their white feathers.

One for the ladies...?

This is one of my friends that I went to the Farmyard bikers event with. What more can I say, maybe I should have taken a stronger ugly filter...

Farmyard

I spent last weekend at something called the Farmyard which is an annual event held for bikers up near Helmsley.
It was an interesting experience and I took my camera along hoping to get a couple of good people shots. However I was a little worried that my camera would become an endoscope so I didnt take as many as I should have done.

The top shot is of me and the friends that I went with, along with the sadistic ba$*!rd second on the right who rode me in on the back of his Fireblade.

The large chap on the bike had been riding round naked all day and I didnt really take any notice untl he turned up with his much better looking companion.

Page Boy

I took this shot at a friends wedding ages ago. I loved the expression on the little chaps face as he sat on a nearby gravestone watching the ongoing official photography.

I deliberately threw the 'happy couple' out of focus in the background whilst still keeping them appropriately framed.

The first time I took this to the printers, the lab assistant printed the out of focus couple and cropped off the actual subject of the small boy! I wonder why he thought I wanted blurred 10x8 photo blowing up?

Hong Kong

I took this photo on a Hong Kong street some while ago.

I loved the clutter of all the signs and so I went up a nearby multi-storey car park to get this shot.

In its original format there was simply too much information to take in. So I have converted it to black and white, just leaving a few signs in the original colour.

Blown away...

We were on top of a hill in North Yorkshire when it was REALLY windy.
It was actually quite difficult to stand so I grabbed this shot while she sat and rested for a while.

I like the expression of excitement on her face as the wind was whistling past her...

Taken using a flash and slightly underexposing the sky to emphasize the clouds.

Just you wait till I'm older...

I am sure that he will get revenge on his dad one day...

Taken at a family barbeque when the weather was just too hot for comfort.

Penny for them...

She looked so pensive here that I couldnt resist the shot.

She is so full of energy that catching her without any blur is always a challenge. Getting her with her mouth closed is virtually impossible!

Dancer

We travelled up to Northumberland for a short break and I got a couple of opportunities to use the camera.

This is the result of one quickly grabbed shot while she danced. The props (ie the daisy chains) where supplied by her mum.

I used a large white reflector on the floor to reflect some light back into her face. Plus it gave me enough light to capture the moving target without blurring. (250th at F5.6)

WIP

Just like one of the previous posts, this is a work in progress. It was a field of barley(?) being blown around in a strong wind. I used a slow exposure to get the blurred effect shown.

However, I feel that this shot required an (in)appropriatly dressed female stood somewhere in the field. Unfortunatly on the day I took this image it was FAR to cold, and I risked being beaten to a pulp if I had asked her to 'get changed'.

With luck the good weather forecast for the upcoming weekend should expose a little more flesh. Watch this space....

Mum and Daughter

I shot this yesterday in our back garden. It was actually quite tricky as the short one wouldn't keep still and there wasn't a lot of light available. Plus, she had her whingey knickers on so she had to be tickled into submission.
The result though isnt half bad.

Taken at 1/40th and F8 no other effects have been applied - I didn't even need the ugly filter...

Romeo and Juliet

We were lucky that the one of the major structural components (i.e. the body filler) didnt fall off the rusty wing she was laid on.

I think that the Robert Palmer video inspired this shot. I really liked the way that the dress and the car blended into one.

Shot on transparency and then scanned it has had very little post processing. I did remove the number plate though.

Harbour

I wonder how many people will recognise this harbour in East Yorkshire?

I haven't cheated, these are the colours as captured on Fujichrome film before I digitally scanned it in.
It was just before sunset and wasn't raining for once. I didn't have a tripod so I just put the camera on the harbour wall and hoped for the best.

The blurry image dead center is a small yatch leaving.
